The 11th Annual Chocolate Fest is coming to Osterville on Saturday, February 4 from 10:00AM to 4:00PM, and if you’re into sweets of any kind and free admittance, this is the place to be. Upon reading the name of the event most people’s taste buds likely jumped to attention. And the activities that follow during this six-hour event do not disappoint. Take a gander at what’s in store—a chocolate desert contest; dog parade; chocolate manicures; book signings; and much more.
Located in Osterville Village, this day has in year’s past proven to draw good crowds and inundate everyone there with all manner of fun, flavorful happenings. (Last year saw a smaller-than-usual crowd because of the blizzard that had befallen the area, but with warmer temps late into January this year, there is reason to be optimistic about a decent day weather-wise.)
This residential seaside community is an ideal locale to host such an event—the quaintness mixed with its natural beauty is a solid one-two punch. The Osterville Business and Professional Association, which sponsors the event, does a great job drawing not just the local residents but a healthy number of visitors from outside of Barnstable. This eclectic group gets to enjoy the amenities offered, and compete with one another for various prizes, which in the past have included “Best in Show,” “Best Presentation,” and “Most Decadent.” (To counterbalance all the sugar-heavy options, they even have prizes for “Best Organic or Gluten Free.”)
It’s a slow-moving, drab time of the year on the Cape, so events like this can liven things up and give everyone a pep in their step. (Literally—considering the amount of sugar involved!) A scavenger hunt is also a staple of the day, proving that it can be a fun activity not just for adults but the kids as well.
The Chocolate Fest is returning once again—replete with competition, games, and lots of fun energy. If you’re looking for something to plug into the calendar for that first weekend in February, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more unique experience.
